TEFL Qualification Teacher Training

Are you a TEFL teacher ready to take your teaching career to the next level?

Don’t let all that experience go to waste. It’s easier to get into ‘proper’ teaching than you might think.

If you’re TEFL qualified, and have some classroom experience, you can join a new training program based in local UK schools and reach qualified teacher status (QTS) at your own pace (in as little as 12 months in many cases!).

The course is completely free and you even earn a salary while you study.

Can you teach in the UK with a TEFL?

Your foreign teaching experience may not qualify you to teach back home.

However, we have a way to fix that and help you take your teaching career to the next level.

Thousands of people travel abroad every year to teach in foreign countries. If you’re reading this article, you’re probably one of them. Whether your goal was to make some extra cash while you travelled the world, or you have a huge passion for teaching English to those who simply want to learn, your TEFL experience is an important part of who you are.

So, it’s disheartening to discover upon returning home that United Kingdom school districts do not view TEFL experience as legitimate teaching. You’ve created the lesson plans, learned to engage students, and had a great deal of success. Why are you not being recognized for your experience? It hardly seems fair, but this is the system to date.

Yet, hope remains. You can become a qualified teacher in the UK, without going back to university and without paying high fees for more training courses. Our program is specifically designed to give those with experience teaching English abroad the education they need to attain a fully qualified teacher status—QTS for short–so they can teach in the UK.

Now, you’re probably thinking, “But I have all this experience! Why do I need more training?” Well, the truth is, there is quite a bit more to being a teacher in the UK than in most TEFL type roles overseas.  It’s important to align what you know so far with the expectations of this more demanding system.

The benefit to teaching abroad before actually attaining QTS is when you begin this training, even though your experience “doesn’t count” for employed teaching in the UK, your experience in front of kids, planning lessons, and engaging your students will be invaluable to your success.

You’ll be happy to learn that our TEFL to QTS programs are completely free.

They are offered as post-graduate qualification courses through school-led practical work placements.  From day one you’ll be back in the classroom working alongside experienced mentors and gradually building your skills and confidence.  Throughout the course, full support is given from teaching staff.  You’ll also have regular meetings with your Castles Education Teacher Trainer to make sure you are on the right track at all times.

The course has a flexible timeline so you can take the program at your own pace.  In order to achieve QTS you will need to complete a portfolio of evidence against the teaching standards requirements.  This usually takes between 1 and 2 years but we’ve found that people with a TEFL background are usually ready for the assessment stage faster than other candidates without experience in the classroom.

The greatest benefit of our TEFL to QTS Transition course, however, is the fact that schools will PAY you while you train!  The work usually takes about 12 months to complete, which means you’ll be making between £10,000 and £12,000 to study doing what you love. Who can say “no” to that?

TEFL to QTS Transition courses are offered through our partner schools all over England.  They take your foreign teaching into account so you can finally build on your TEFL experience and take your teaching career to the next level.
